From paper to screen: what gets lost

The paper register had one advantage, and I nearly threw it away.

A paper register is slow, but it has one strength: everything is visible on a single sheet. The teacher takes in the whole group at a glance.

In the first version I put every student on a separate screen. It looked correct, but teachers did not use it — it took twenty taps.

Second attempt

In the second version the whole group came back as one list, and only the absentees get marked. That was exactly the logic of the paper register — I had thrown it away for nothing.
